Our Farm

The Schuhmacher farm is on the southern edge of the Wimitzerberge in Carinthia, 700m above sea-level, and is situated in the township of Frauenstein (www.frauenstein.at).

All pastures have a southern exposure. The steep areas are the grazing pastures for young animals up to three years of age, whereby the hillside keeps the animals fit and athletic and is of advatage for the muscular development.

The full grown breeding animals also feel very much at home in these areas, however it is of little benefit and there is more than enough level pastures for these animals.

In winter all the animals are gathered into a central barn with adequate winter fodder areas and solid floor. The young cows (up to three years) are kept in a seperate winter area.

The barn is built so that ample quarantine areas for the breed animal which are to be imported or exported are available and that care and attendance can be undertaken under hygienic conditions. The animals are adjusted to these spaces and handling of the animals is easily done. The farm is run completely organic, there is daily contact to the animals as a visual check.

Many thanks to my father Alexander who, at 81, still pampers, pets and leads his "little beasts".
